About Le Bon Café
The concept is simple: Provide our patrons with a warm and friendly neighborhood gathering place, somewhere they can stop on the way to work to get a coffee to go or linger over a bowl of café crème and a croissant while reading the morning paper. A place where they can get a quick healthy lunch to take back to the office or enjoy with friends at one of the tables on the outdoor terrace.
Owner Sandra McCluskey opened Le Bon Café over twenty years ago. A Capitol Hill event planner in those days, she longed to fill a void on the Hill and create the neighborhood café experience she had loved so much as a student in Paris and during her many trips to France.
Sandra is a native of Richmond, Virginia and a graduate of the College of William and Mary. Her love of all things French began with her first stay in France during her study abroad as a university student and has grown during the years through many professional and personal visits.
After quitting her job on Capitol Hill, she worked at Le Bellecour, a Michelin-star restaurant in Paris, to learn first-hand how a French kitchen operated. She also attended classes at La Varenne Culinary School and spent hours visiting and researching French café life before returning to Washington to open Le Bon Café. She has recently had the opportunity to live her dream by residing in Paris for four years while her husband worked on assignment with NATO. She traveled, cooked, shopped the markets and ate her way through every arrondisement of Paris and is thrilled to return to Le Bon Café to share what she experienced with her customers and friends.
